American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), an accredited institution founded in 1978 with over 4,000 medical graduates, invites applications for a faculty position in the Department of Behavioral and Clinical Sciences as Behavior Clinical Medicine Faculty.
The Medical Sciences campus of AUC is located on the island of St. Maarten. AUC has an exceptional faculty composed of clinicians and basic scientists who instruct an accomplished and committed body of students.
Our medical students are highly motivated and the majority are from the USA and Canada. The first two years of basic medical sciences are completed in St. Maarten and the second two years of clinical studies are done at associated hospitals in the USA and United Kingdom. After passing all prerequisite examinations, AUC graduates are licensed to practice medicine in all 50 states of the U.S.
Education is the primary focus of the faculty. The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester. Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year. Effective teachers are sought, particularly individuals who are interested in improving medical education and who work well on a team. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education.
The Behavioral Medicine curriculum is lecture based and presented mainly in the fourth and fifth semesters of the AUC medical science program. Teaching responsibilities may include lectures in topics such as normal human development, high risk behavior, psychopathology, therapeutic theories, public health and communication skills. The faculty member will also contribute to the ICM curriculum. This four semester program through the use of small groups and standardized patients allows students to develop the skills needed for patient centered care. The faculty member will also be responsible for development and delivery of various integrative activities.
All Faculty members are expected to continue their professional development and/or scholarly achievement, their public and/or professional service and actively participate in University life.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
