Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP) located in Miramar, Florida  is actively seeking an experienced full time faculty for the position of Assistant Professor of Medical Physiology and Biophysics.  The Physiology faculty teaches the Medical Physiology and Biophysics course including topics such as cell, cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal physiology to aspiring medical students to the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) and Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM).  The course is taught three times a year.  A successful candidate will have had significant experience teaching Medical Physiology.

 

The mission of MERP is to provide students from diverse backgrounds with additional academic preparation to foster their success in medical school and to help determine their readiness to meet the demands of a fast-paced and rigorous medical school curriculum.  Students receive instruction in four disciplines including Medical Anatomy/Histology, Medical Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Medical Microbiology/Immunology, and Medical Physiology/Biophysics.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare course material (lecture notes, lectures, assessments (exams quizzes and clinical cases))
  • Deliver effective lectures
  • Prepare instructional plans and career analyses to reflect current changes in the field
  • Develop new instructional materials and teaching techniques with participation in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum planning
  • Prepare, administer and evaluate examinations to assess the development of student competence
  • Advise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel
  • Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and subject matter competence
  • Serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course content
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the Director of MERP and other academic leaders.

Qualifications

  • M.D. and/or Ph.D. in Physiology, Biophysics or related fields
  • Enthusiastic instructor with previous teaching experience at a North American or United Kingdom medical school.
