Opportunity at a Glance

The Student Advocate for Student Finance is primarily responsible for providing student support in addressing inquires and issues related to student finance needs as well as overall support to the registrar team on campus. Candidates must possess excellent customer service skills, a superior level of professionalism, and the ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely fashion. 

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer support by monitoring, responding to, and resolving student issues via phone, e-mail, walk-in visits as well as utilizing the Salesforce system to create, respond to and reassign incidents. Identifies and escalates issues to management on an as needed basis.
  • Performs presentations to students on financial literacy and other aspects of financial aid virtually and/or on campus.
  • Acts as liaison between the students, administrative offices and third-party agencies such as student loan servicers.
  • Collaborates with team and management on resolving escalated issues.
  • Collaborates with other departments and functional areas to deliver an optimal student experience from inquiry through to graduation
  • Preserves a high-level knowledge of institutional academic policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all government laws and regulations related to financial aid, and student records, such as FERPA.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of all Title IV programs, policies and procedures including institutional policies and federal and state regulations. Complies with applicable federal and state laws.
  • Maintains student records, ensuring that all student data is current and accurate in the Banner and SalesForce information system at all times.
  • Analyzes financial aid reports and enhances customer service by and proactively reaching out to students through electronic and other means of communication on issues such as registration, account balances, account holds, and other missing information.
  • Supports the new student intake process by working with admissions to answer incoming student questions, provide a thorough review of program and student costs as well as outlining all possible options to fund their education
  • Works with management to utilize student feedback to assist in the improvement of processes.
  • Participates in activities associated with the student check-in process for each semester.
  • Attends training sessions and provides training to team on advanced financial aid topics and technology.
  • Provides support to the office of Registrar on campus as needed
  • Participates in departmental meetings.
  • Provides back up support for others on an as needed basis.
  • Assists with administrative support needs as requested.
  • Completes other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Familiar with call center environment is preferred
  • Outstanding customer service skills with 1+ years of customer service or related experience required
  • 1+ years of experience in Higher Education preferred
  • Ability to work a variety of office hours including evenings and weekends
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize effectively
  • PC skills in Microsoft office, Internet applications and database software. experience with Student Financial Aid software application a plus
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain systems access to the NSLDS system (must not be in default of Title IV Federal aid)
  • Must have personal internet connection available for periodic work from home/remote privileges.
